Given the dangerous and bizarre nature of some of our work- living among the Bedouin in Jordan, handling media on high profile cultural heritage sites, working with and around multi-spectral imaging equipment, etc – the graduate students of CISA3, with the support of our wonderful project coordinators Alex & Vanessa–deemed it necessary that we get additional training, mentorship, and support on some of these topics. And so, in addition to Crisis Management training last year, and recent training in media communication, we also underwent a series of optional seminars from the UCSD Environmental Health and Safety folks on x-ray safety. This entailed several hours of classwork, a test for those of us who wanted our official certification, and an additional workshop day of hard-core x-ray equipment testing on whatever safe objects we had handy (including the Faro Laser Scanner).
